JCI CYEA

So honored to be invited by Terry to this JCI CYEA (Junior Chamber International - Creative Young Entrepreneur Award) @ Park Royal Hotel today. It's an eye opener and certainly a good exposure for us. OOooo...didn't know that Terry is so "keat", he's the Organising Chairperson for his event today. And today i finally met this man Tan Sri Dato Professor Dr Lim Kok Wing (such a long name, uh?) Just read bout him in a full page report on paper last few weeks on his vision and leadership in initiating and commiting to innovation. I have not studied in Lim Kok Wing University of Creative Technology before, but to me its name is at high prestige.

Throughout his speech, i learnt something that the total wealth of 20% of the world's population living in developing countries was only 4 times more than the total wealth of 80% of the world's population living in developing countries many yrs back, but the difference becomes larger and larger and now it differs by more than 100 times already. Developing countries have little capacity to innovate, but a country's growth relies on how well the nation is in innovation, which is why the setup of his universities. This makes hugh sense though, if everybody in a country starts to innovate and involves in entrepreneurship, the country's ecomony will boom!

Besides this, i met my secondary classmate who just gave birth 2 weeks ago to a baby boy, whose husband is awarded as one of the 3 CYEA Winner. I've heard bout his "legend" ever since our schooling time. He had the extraordinary courage that normal people don't have at that time after high school. Friends and schoolmates were all entering Universities or colleges to pursue their Degree. That makes perfect sense to go for studies and obtain a good cert after high school, right? But to him, he saw the opportunity of web hosting business in Malaysia as the Internet was booming that time with very few web hosting companies. Hence, he dropped out of his first year college and concentrated in the business. From being the 3rd largest web hosting company in Malaysia in 2005, to 2nd largest in 2006, to this year 2007, his company has become the largest web hosting company and owning 13% of the market share in the Malaysian hosting market, having a staff of 37 working around the clock for him. Current world's ranking is 600+, and his aim is to enter World's Top 500 this year. I strongly believe he can do it. The most irony part of all was, remember i said before all his friends went into Uni and colleges for their Degree? After 4 years of studies obtaining the nice certs, it's just the right timing to come out and be his employees! It's indeed the case that some of my friends are working for him now earning the miserable few thousands per month, while his business is chalking up revenue in the millions.

Despite his achievement and success, i've heard a lot of good comments from various people that he's a humble and nice person. He even sponsored his employees to attend the Anthony Robbins 2 days seminars in Singapore. I can see his employees like him very much and he gained the loudest applause from the floor. After the ceremony, i went congratulate both him and his wife, they are just so humble and friendly. Bet this is one of his success factors. I really salute him.

This was what he said before, "I figured out if the business didn't work out, i'd still be able to go back and finish my studies, but if i didn't seize the opportunity then, i might not have had another chance." He is so right, chances come and go in our lives, but they will only have relation with us if we grab them when they come. How many opportunities have we let go before already? and how many opportunities will come to us again in this life time? We might not know which is the last one...
